In 1 Corinthians 6:1-11, Paul confronts the Corinthians for taking their grievances against fellow believers to secular courts instead of resolving these matters within the church. This issue wasn’t just about lawsuits; it was about identity. The Corinthians were failing to live in a way that reflected their new identity in Christ. They were acting like the world, not like people transformed by the gospel.
At the heart of this passage is a profound truth: as believers, our identity in Christ should shape every aspect of our lives, including how we handle conflict. Paul reminds the Corinthians—and us—that we are not who we once were. We have been washed, sanctified, and justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, the way we resolve disputes should reflect that transformation. Our relationships within the body of Christ should be marked by love, forgiveness, and a commitment to unity, not by the selfishness and division so common in the world.
