Here are a series of reflective questions on this morning’s sermon on 1 Corinthians 5:1-13:
1. How do I personally react when I encounter sin within the church community? Am I prone to ignore it, judge harshly, or address it with love and grace?
2. In what ways might I be prideful about my own tolerance or open-mindedness, similar to the Corinthian church?
3. How can I contribute to creating a church culture that values both holiness and grace?
4. Am I willing to lovingly confront a fellow believer if I see them engaged in destructive behavior? What holds me back from doing so?
5. How do I balance engaging with non-believers in the world while maintaining my Christian values and witness?
6. In what areas of my life do I need to be more open to accountability from my Christian community?
7. How can I better prepare myself to receive correction or discipline if it becomes necessary in my own life?
8. Am I guilty of judging those outside the church more harshly than those within? How can I shift my focus appropriately?
9. In what ways can I better support those in our church who are struggling with sin or facing church discipline?
10. How does understanding the goal of restoration change my perspective on church discipline?
11. Are there areas in my life where I claim to be a believer but my actions contradict that claim? How can I address this?
12. How can I help create an environment in our church where people feel safe to confess their struggles and seek help?
13. In what ways can I grow in discernment when it comes to maintaining boundaries within the church while still being welcoming to all?
14. How does this passage challenge my understanding of love? Is true love sometimes expressed through confrontation and discipline?
15. What steps can I take to deepen my commitment to the church community and my accountability within it?
