Life is full of decisions—where we will live, whom we will marry, how we will spend our time. Many people plan their futures with great detail, yet often leave God out of the picture. Others live as if this world is all that matters, forgetting that Christ will return.
Paul’s final words in 1 Corinthians challenge us to think beyond our immediate concerns and to live in light of Christ’s coming. He does not close his letter with mere formalities but with urgent, searching exhortations. He calls the church to trust God’s providence, to honor faithful workers, to stand firm in the faith, to love Christ above all else, and to long for His return.
This passage asks hard questions of us:
- Do we make our plans with an attitude of surrender to the Lord’s will?
- Do we support and encourage those who labor in the gospel?
- Are we standing firm in our faith, watching for spiritual dangers, and acting with love?
- Do we truly love Christ, or are we only professing faith without a heart for Him?
- Do we long for Christ’s return, or are we more invested in this present world?
Paul’s closing words remind us that how we live today reveals what we truly believe about eternity. If Christ were to return today, would He find us faithful? Would He find us watching, working, and loving as we ought?
As we walk through this passage, may the Holy Spirit convict our hearts, strengthen our faith, and stir in us a deeper love for Christ, so that we may be ready when He comes.
