We live in a world that is constantly resisting God’s authority. Everywhere we look, there are attempts to redefine morality, undermine truth, and live as though God does not exist. From the corridors of power to the streets of daily life, humanity has declared its desire for autonomy—freedom from God’s rule. This rebellion is nothing new. It is the same sinful desire that led Adam and Eve to defy God in the garden, Cain to reject God’s way of worship, and nations throughout history to cast off the idea of divine authority. Yet Scripture reminds us of a sobering truth: rebellion against God is futile. It cannot succeed, for God is sovereign, and His purposes cannot be thwarted.
Psalm 2 speaks directly to this reality. It is a royal psalm, originally tied to the coronation of Israel’s kings, but its significance goes far beyond that context. It is also a messianic psalm, pointing us to God’s ultimate King—Jesus Christ. This psalm reveals three key truths: the rebellion of the nations against God, His response in establishing His King, and the invitation for all to submit to the Son. Psalm 2 reminds us that Christ reigns as the sovereign Lord, and it calls each of us to examine our hearts, submit to His authority, and take refuge in Him.
