Day 3: God’s Sovereignty in Growth and the Role of Servants
Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 (ESV)
6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.
7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.
Reflection:
In these verses, Paul uses an agricultural metaphor to explain the roles he and Apollos played in the spiritual growth of the Corinthians. Paul “planted” by founding the church and preaching the gospel, while Apollos “watered” by teaching and nurturing the believers. However, Paul makes it clear that it is God who gives the growth. This underscores a vital truth: human effort is necessary, but it is ultimately subordinate to God’s power and sovereignty.
Paul’s message calls us to humility and dependence on God. While we are called to be faithful in our roles, we must recognize that any true spiritual growth is the result of God’s work in the hearts of people.

Action Steps:
- Acknowledge God’s Role:
- In your prayers, regularly acknowledge and thank God for the growth He brings. Recognize His sovereignty and give Him the glory for any success or progress you experience.
- Be Faithful in Your Role:
- Focus on being diligent and faithful in the tasks God has given you, whether it is planting seeds of faith or nurturing others. Trust that God will bring the growth in His time and way.
- Cultivate Dependence on God:
- Develop a habit of seeking God’s guidance and strength in all your efforts. Before undertaking any task, pray for His blessing and wisdom, acknowledging that apart from Him, you can do nothing (John 15:5).

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the privilege of being Your servants, called to plant and water in Your field. Help us to always remember that it is You who gives the growth.
