Day 5: The Foundation of Our Faith (1 Corinthians 2:5)
Scripture: “so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:5 ESV)
Reflection: In this final verse of our passage, Paul reveals the ultimate purpose behind his approach to preaching: to ensure that the Corinthians’ faith would be grounded in the power of God rather than in human wisdom. Paul understood that a faith based on human intellect or persuasive arguments is fragile and easily shaken. In contrast, faith that is rooted in God’s power is unshakeable and enduring.
The wisdom of men is limited and often flawed, subject to change and influenced by cultural trends. God’s power, however, is eternal, unchanging, and omnipotent. Paul’s desire was for the Corinthians to have a solid foundation for their faith, one that could withstand any challenge or trial because it was built on the unshakable power of God.
Illustration: Consider the difference between a house built on sand and a house built on rock, as described in Jesus’ parable in Matthew 7:24-27. The house built on sand might look sturdy initially, but when storms and floods come, it collapses because its foundation is unstable. In contrast, the house built on rock stands firm, no matter how fierce the storm, because it has a solid foundation.
Our faith is like that house. When it is built on the wisdom of men, it is vulnerable to the shifting sands of doubt and skepticism. But when it is founded on the power of God, it remains strong and steadfast, capable of withstanding the storms of life.
Application: Examine the foundation of your faith. Is it built on God’s power or on human wisdom and understanding? Seek to deepen your reliance on God’s power, ensuring that your faith remains strong and steadfast.

- Encourage Others: Share this truth with those around you, helping them to understand the importance of grounding their faith in God’s power. Whether through conversations, teaching, or example, point others to the unshakable foundation of faith in God.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we desire a faith that is deeply rooted in Your power. Help us to rely on You more fully and to trust in Your strength. Let our faith be unshakeable, built on the solid foundation of Your truth. Guide us in encouraging others to ground their faith in You, that together we may stand firm against any trials we face. Amen.
