Friday – Empowered by Christ

“Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:24)

As we conclude this week’s journey through the profound truths of 1 Corinthians 1, we are reminded that our ability to live out the paradoxical wisdom of the cross finds its source in Christ alone. He is the embodiment of God’s power and wisdom, and it is through our union with Him that we are empowered to reject the folly of worldly wisdom and embrace the seeming foolishness of the gospel.

Apart from Christ, we are utterly helpless – captives to our own fallen nature and enslaved by the empty philosophies of this world. Our minds are darkened, our hearts are hardened, and our strength is but a fleeting vapor. We are like branches severed from the vine, unable to bear lasting fruit or to truly flourish.

But in Christ, we find life and power. Through His sacrificial death and glorious resurrection, we have been united with Him, grafted into the true Vine and made partakers of His divine nature. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead now dwells within us, empowering us to walk in newness of life and to bear the fruit of righteousness.

It is this indwelling Spirit that illuminates our minds to the truth of God’s Word, granting us wisdom that transcends human understanding. It is the Spirit who convicts us of sin, prompting us to repentance and guiding us into all truth. And it is the Spirit who strengthens us with power in our inner beings, enabling us to live lives that are pleasing to God and bear witness to the transformative power of the gospel.

As we step into this new day, let us do so in complete reliance upon Christ. May we seek His guidance and wisdom in every decision, every interaction, and every circumstance we face. Let us cultivate a posture of humility and dependence, acknowledging our utter need for His strength and provision.

When the allure of worldly wisdom tempts us, may we cling to the cross, finding in its paradoxical power the true wisdom of God. And when our own abilities and resources seem inadequate, let us boast in our weaknesses, for it is in our brokenness that Christ’s strength is made perfect.

Let us follow in the footsteps of our Savior, embracing the path of humility, obedience, and self-sacrifice. May His example inspire us to serve others selflessly, to bear up under suffering with patience, and to remain steadfast in the face of opposition – all for the sake of the gospel and the glory of God.

As we go forth, empowered by Christ and filled with His Spirit, let us be ambassadors of the upside-down kingdom, living out the paradoxical wisdom of the cross in every aspect of our lives. May our thoughts, words, and actions reflect the transformative power of the gospel, drawing others to the One who is the way, the truth, and the life.
