In our age of credentials, degrees, endorsements, and carefully curated social media profiles, people often measure their worth and credibility by external validation. We value the right references, impressive resumes, and certificates framed neatly on the wall. But imagine if someone asked you to prove that your Christian faith and ministry were legitimate—not through paper documents, but by the lives you’ve influenced. Could you confidently point to lives visibly transformed by the power of Christ?
In 2 Corinthians 3, the Apostle Paul faced exactly that challenge. Critics in Corinth questioned Paul’s apostolic authority and demanded letters of recommendation as proof of his legitimacy. But Paul responded in a radically different way—not by boasting in external credentials, but by pointing to transformed lives as the authentic evidence of true gospel ministry. Paul redirects our focus from external qualifications to internal transformation, from human approval to Christ’s sufficiency, and from a ministry marked by legalism and lifeless rules to one empowered by the life-giving Spirit of God. As we explore this powerful passage today, we’ll see how Paul grounds his confidence and ministry entirely in Christ and His Spirit’s work among believers. We begin first by understanding the greatest evidence of genuine gospel ministry: lives radically transformed by Christ.
